Snow days result in school year extension

Students may have enjoyed their extra days off following the Christmas break, but will have their school year extended to make up the difference.  Carl Junction schools were able to hold only two days of classes between the time school dismissed early Dec. 22 for Christmas break until Monday, Jan. 11.  Snow and ice led to the cancelation of school, Monday, Jan. 4, the date students were slated to return from break.  Administrators made the call to cancel classes Jan. 7 and 8 due to dangerously cold weather in the interest of student safety.
The students will now go to school on Presidents Day, Feb. 15 to make up the first snow day.  The school will make up the other days at the end of the school year.  Classes were originally set to dismiss May 20.  The last day of school is now set for May 24.  The school calendar has no more snow days built into it.  Any further cancelations would result in a later dismissal date.
