CJ athletes make All-Big 8

The Big 8 Conference baseball all-conference team was dominated by the two teams that finished in the top of the standings in Cassville and Carl Junction. 

The Cassville Wildcats led the way with five first-team selections, while garnering the two major awards as well.  Carl Junction, the Class 3 runner-up, had four players named to the first team.

Cassville honorees included pitcher Travis Northern, shortstop Aaron Brooks, outfielder Cody Pierson, designated hitter Jake Nolan and utility man Aaron Jamieson.

Jamieson was named the Big 8 Player of the Year and Cassville coach Rod Hemphill was named the Coach of the Year. 

Carl Junction first-team selections included pitcher Jake Hale, catcher Travis Green, first baseman Seth Spencer and second baseman Jack Luton. 

Other first-team selections included: Monett pitcher Kyle Coatney; Mt. Vernon pitcher Wilson Cowherd; Monett third baseman Kirk Moore; Monett outfielder Spenser Witt and Aurora outfielder Shayne Henbest.

Witt, Brooks and Jamieson were only unanimous selections on the first team.

Second-team honors went to Carl Junction's Jake Stevenson as a pitcher, Hale as a shortstop, and outfielders Payton Walker and Matt Thompson. 

Garrett Carden (third base) and Logan Deem (designated hitter) were honorable mention selections for the Bulldogs.
