The Carl Junction post office is No. 1 in the United States for the annual USPS Stamp Out Breast Cancer Campaign. With the efforts helmed by postmaster Sharon Clark, the post office branch has claimed the title for three consecutive years, selling the most Breast Cancer Research Stamps in the month of October.
Carl Junction sold a total of $53,398.80 worth of Breast Cancer Research stamps. The Punta Gorda post office in Florida claimed second place with $14,308.80 in sales. Post office branches across the nation compete in the campaign to see which location can sell the most Breast Cancer Research stamps, which retail for 60-cents each. A portion of the stamp sales helps to fund cancer research.
This is the seventh year Clark has competed in the competition. A two-time cancer survivor, she and her team decorated the office with pink Sept. 30, 2015. Clark previously told the Joplin Regional Business Journal that it is her mission to help spread awareness about the necessity of getting screened for cancer.
